I don't know about anybody else but I can never get to sleep, so I figured I'd post an interesting article I found that might be of assistance to anyone else that shares my challenge:

Top 10 Foods for a Good Night's Sleep
Posted Tue, Jan 23, 2007, 6:32 pm PST

What is the secret to getting a solid 7 to 8 hours of sleep? Head for the kitchen and enjoy one or two of these 10 foods. They relax tense muscles, quiet buzzing minds, and/or get calming, sleep-inducing hormones - serotonin and melatonin - flowing. Yawning yet?

Bananas. They're practically a sleeping pill in a peel. In addition to a bit of soothing melatonin and serotonin, bananas contain magnesium, a muscle relaxant.

Chamomile tea. The reason chamomile is such a staple of bedtime tea blends is its mild sedating effect - it's the perfect natural antidote for restless minds/bodies.

Warm milk. It's not a myth. Milk has some tryptophan - an amino acid that has a sedative - like effect - and calcium, which helps the brain use tryptophan. Plus there's the psychological throw-back to infancy, when a warm bottle meant "relax, everything's fine."

Honey. Drizzle a little in your warm milk or herb tea. Lots of sugar is stimulating, but a little glucose tells your brain to turn off orexin, a recently discovered neurotransmitter that's linked to alertness.

Potatoes. A small baked spud won't overwhelm your GI tract, and it clears away acids that can interfere with yawn-inducing tryptophan. To up the soothing effects, mash it with warm milk.

Oatmeal. Oats are a rich source of sleep - inviting melatonin, and a small bowl of warm cereal with a splash of maple syrup is cozy - plus if you've got the munchies, it's filling too.

Almonds. A handful of these heart-healthy nuts can be snooze-inducing, as they contain both tryptophan and a nice dose of muscle-relaxing magnesium.

Flaxseeds. When life goes awry and feeling down is keeping you up, try sprinkling 2 tablespoons of these healthy little seeds on your bedtime oatmeal. They're rich in omega-3 fatty acids, a natural mood lifter.

Whole-wheat bread. A slice of toast with your tea and honey will release insulin, which helps tryptophan get to your brain, where it's converted to serotonin and quietly murmurs "time to sleep."

Turkey. It's the most famous source of tryptophan, credited with all those Thanksgiving naps. But that's actually modern folklore. Tryptophan works when your stomach's basically empty, not overstuffed, and when there are some carbs around, not tons of protein. But put a lean slice or two on some whole-wheat bread mid-evening, and you've got one of the best sleep inducers in your kitchen.

Let's get down to brass tacks. How much for the ap

Caffeine and or a lack of rigorous physical activity have to be close to the top for things that cause sleep problems. Never heard of a roofer or landscaper having sleeping difficulties.

No offense, but that article is just wacky. Honey? Yeah a boost of sugar is great for dozing off. Same goes for a banana.
Potatoes? That's a ticket to a spare tire.
Turkey for sure. Anything rich in protein and low in carbs is less likely to keep one awake.

Three of those items I have for breakfast: almond butter, flax seed bread and a banana. Good stuff.

make sure you read up on the adverse affects of Melatonin though..I use to take it for a period, not that I needed it and it did seem to help...everything comes with a risk though.

GHB hands down.

Greatest sleep aid of all time.

And great on the body if you are worried about feeling or looking like shit. also can substitute for alcohol so you don't have your natural testosterone levels lowered. Also makes you horny as hell.

Unfortunately I haven't had any in around 6 months or so. hard to get in this country because the government is so clueless. A couple high school kids get fucked up and use it wrong, then the rest of us pay.

And no, its not a date rape drug. That is just more senseless information that the country spreads on. if you pass out, don't you think if you are a girl you'd notice if some guy starts fucking you. They use the date rape thing to kill off the use of it but it is very effective if used correctly. Especially being that you can pass out for a little while and wake up feeling like you just slept for 8 hours.

Melatonin and Valerian root only work if you have mild problems with sleep. If you have high anxiety or something, that will never work. Tylenol PM would actually work better.

Tylenol PM is actually pretty effective considering it is completely legal, but the problem with it is over time it is extremely hard on your liver yet that is 100% legal yet GHB is 100% not legal and not as harsh on your insides.

Just another big mess by the 60 year old guys wearing suits that were rasied in prominant families yet just do not get it.

A guy I work with used to hang around body-builders. He said the same thinga bout GHB. He also said it's practically impossible to OD on it.

Allow me to add one:

Beer. Drink 2 or 3 beers for health each night. If that doesn't work, take 2 shots of tequila. If I ever had problems sleeping it was usually due to stress at work. When I took the shots of tequila I didn't have any stress.

Never failed me in over 30 years.

Welcome to my world.
14 year veteran of the graveyard shift.
Love the job, but I have no sleeping pattern whatsoever.
I have a 'script for Lunesta, (amnesia) but that leaves an awful aftertaste the next morning.

Tylenol PM has the same effect as Lunesta with 3/4 less of the cost.

Yup I almost hate my days off because I get all screwed up again.Luckily for me I'm just holiding down the fort for the day shift and there is not much heavy lifting involved. If you can get use to it its a great shift otherwise you feel like a zombi all the time. Tough to exercise because of lack of energy.Sleep consistency is the hardest.
